A couple of interesting things happened this week with the announcement of a new cruise port for London, and the confirmation of a new aircraft for Crystal Cruises.
Southampton no longer UK’s Cruising HUB?
Earlier this week London’s mayor, Boris Johnson, gave the go ahead to a large property development scheme that will include 477 homes, a skills academy, restaurants, cafes and bars, and a new cruise terminal. The new terminal will be able to accommodate mid-sized ships of around 1600 passengers, which is good news for cruise goers.
Sir Edward Lister, London’s deputy mayor for planning, assured: “We have worked with the local authority and the developer to ensure the new terminal and surrounding infrastructure will meet the needs of thousands of tourists coming to the city each year.”
Crystal Cruises confirms order for a second aircraft
Crystal Cruises announced a large expansion plan just under a month ago and this announcement is just another in a long line of exciting things coming up in the future for the cruise line.
The initial announcement last month included the order of three brand new ocean liners, two river vessels, a yacht and a Dreamliner Boeing 787 - so now they need to add a new….well those details haven’t been released yet but it will be another 7-series style plane.
The first aircraft that was announced will reportedly be used for the longer term trips (28 days), and the newly announced craft will take care of the shorter trips (14 days).
