If you’re looking to improve your baking, then a cruise on board the Britannia could provide you with the ultimate cookery lesson. Great British Bake Off star Mary Berry will be sharing her skills as she boards P&O’s new ship later this year. She will be one of 10 top celebrity chefs hosting classes on cruises throughout the year.
In the Cookery School, passengers will have the chance to learn from the greats as they host classes as well as chef’s table dinners, Q&A sessions and a chance to take their favourite recipes home with a signed copy of the book.
Mary Berry will be travelling on a 12 night cruise around the British Isles departing on July 6 2015. She’ll be joined on this voyage by Italian cuisine specialist Theo Randall, and TV chef, and host of BBC One’s Saturday Kitchen, James Martin.
Other chefs participating in the Cookery School experience include Nathan Outlaw, holder of four Michelin stars; Legendary French chef Pierre Koffmann; popular British chef James Tanner; successful Indian chef Vivek Singh; and the godfather of Italian gastronomy Antonio Carluccio.
P&O Cruises marketing director Christopher Edgington hopes that this new offering will bring cruising to a new audience, commenting: “With a stellar line-up of celebrity chefs and iconic professional kitchen appliances, Britannia is taking cookery classes at sea to the next level. I’m sure that the opportunity to join these exclusive cooking experiences will appeal to a whole new group of people who have never before considered cruising as a holiday option.”
The lessons will cost £100 per person or £200 when the classes are hosted by two chefs. They will be held in The Cookery Club, the world’s first cookery school at sea which can accommodate up to 24 people. In order to enjoy a complete professional cookery experience, students will be working with state-of-the-art equipment provided by KitchenAid and knives provided by British company Robert Welch.
Although there is great talent available on all of these cruises, Mary Berry’s appearance will undoubtedly be a highlight for many. She has delighted generations with her traditional recipes, cookery books and television shows, and now she is offering cruise passengers the opportunity to have their cake and eat it.
