1 London (Dover)
Visible for miles from sea, the White Cliffs of Dover are an instantly recognizable symbol of England. Modern highways make Dover the doorstep to London - Britain's ever-fascinating capital. The choices are fascinating and endless. Dover is also your gateway to Kent's green countryside, dotted with old medieval towns and castles.

2 St Helier
Natural beauty abounds in Jersey, from its pastoral countryside to its spectacular coastline. Quaint historic towns and fragrant lavender fields surround the island's robust capital, St. Helier.

The largest and southernmost Channel Island, Jersey possesses a complex history spanning 8,000 years. The Isles' unique location between England and France has made them susceptible to invaders. When William the Conqueror took power in 1066 they passed from French to Anglo-Norman control. They were also the only part of the British Isles to be occupied during the Second World War. Today, Jersey's allegiance is to Britain, though it regulates its own domestic affairs, including taxation.

3 Waterford
Waterford, a beautiful region of southeastern Ireland, is best known for its famous lead crystal. Situated on the River Suir, the city and port of Waterford actually dates back to Viking times and retains a medieval character along its busy riverside and buildings from an 18th century expansion.

4 Dublin
Dublin has experienced a renaissance. Today, this gracious and cosmopolitan city on the Liffey is one of Europe's premier destinations. The capital of the Republic of Ireland, Dublin is an intimate place that is easy to explore. Stroll past St. Stephen's Green or survey the gray, stone façades of Trinity College, Ireland's oldest university. The city is also remarkably well-preserved - every June 16, scholars retrace the paths of James Joyce's characters in the novel "Ulysses," set in Dublin on June 16, 1904.

Dublin possesses a storied history. A settlement has existed on the banks of the River Liffey for at least a millennium and a half. Succeeding waves of Gaelic, Viking, Norman and English invaders have left their mark on the city.
