1 Barcelona
Dynamic Barcelona is all about architecture, from the magnificent medieval buildings of the Gothic Quarter to the Modernist movement typified by the work of Antoni Gaudi. Though his materials were stone and metal, his forms were organic, awash in curves, swirls, and colors. His masterpiece is the amazing Church of the Sagrada Familia, colossal and as yet unfinished, though construction began in 1882. A contemporary contribution to the scene is Ricardo Bofill's post modernist National Theater of Catalonia, an imaginative combination of classical and modern design, with a greenhouse-like lobby.

2 Villefranche (Nice)
Right in the middle of the Cote d’Azur, Nice has long attracted writers and artists with its famously clear light. Arm yourself with a scoop of lavender and vanilla ice cream and join the locals strolling the legendary waterfront Promenade des Anglais.

3 Florence/Pisa (Livorno)
For Renaissance treasures, nothing compares. The Uffizi is home to Michelangelo’s David, Botticelli’s Birth of Venus and Leonardo’s Annunciation – just to start. Add architectural icons like Brunelleschi’s Duomo, or the Baptistry with its Gates of Paradise.

4 Civitavecchia (Rome)
Hidden piazzas, opulent baroque churches, classical ruins at every turn. The best of Italian fashion. Countless art galleries, gardens and palaces. If ever there was a place to return to and delve deeper, it’s Rome.

5 Naples (Salerno)
Framed by Mount Vesuvius along a dramatic skyline, the 2,800 year-old port city of Naples is chock full of historical sites, churches, and museums that make it an incredible place for you to explore. And in the region where pizza was first invented, you know the food is going to be incredible. Just 35 miles down the coast, Salerno offers you a rich history but also boasts a marvelous collection of parks, natural wonders, and unique vantage points to take in the beauty of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Two cities. One incredible stretch of Italian coastline.

This is Emilia-Romagna country. Think parmesan, balsamico, fettuccine and prosciutto crudo - just a few of the delights invented here. But there’s lots more to enjoy. Byzantine mosaics in the 1450 year old Basilica of Sant’Aplollinare. Quite magical!
