Day Port Arrival Departure
1 Barcelona
Dynamic Barcelona is all about architecture, from the magnificent medieval buildings of the Gothic Quarter to the Modernist movement typified by the work of Antoni Gaudi. Though his materials were stone and metal, his forms were organic, awash in curves, swirls, and colors. His masterpiece is the amazing Church of the Sagrada Familia, colossal and as yet unfinished, though construction began in 1882. A contemporary contribution to the scene is Ricardo Bofill's post modernist National Theater of Catalonia, an imaginative combination of classical and modern design, with a greenhouse-like lobby.

2 Cartagena, Spain
If you’re a fan of military might, Cartagena is packed with fabulous fortifications paying tribute to its historical importance. From the Roman Theatre to the Bateria de Castillitos and Conception Castle there’s plenty to keep you enthralled. The city has many fascinating museums too, including a museum of medicine. If you prefer, treat yourself in the bars, handicraft shops and wine cellars of this vibrant port.

3 Ibiza
The culture and style of Ibiza is as varied as its pronunciation ("e-vee-tha" or "e-bee-tha" or "e-bee-zha," depending on where you're from). And you'd be hard-pressed to find such a cosmopolitan mix outside Paris or Manhattan. Ibiza attracts all sorts of people with its vibrant nightlife, gorgeous beaches and perfect Mediterranean climate.

4 Palma de Mallorca
The best views are reserved by those who arrive by sea. The circular white battlements of Bellver Castle sit on a hill overlooking the towering gothic cathedral, a wonder that took 400 years to build. Mallorca also leads the way in man-made pearls.

5 Provence (Toulon)
Your stepping stone to the fields of lavender of Provence and charming villages like Cassis or Les Baux. Drop into one of the restaurants around the colourful Vieux Port (old harbour) and order Bouillabaisse, the hearty fish stew invented here.
