After flying KLM from Glasgow to Athens via Amsterdam I was greeted in the arrivals hall by a representative from Cunard and was soon on the coach for the drive to the ship. On arrival at Piraeus the embarking process was very efficient and in no time I was settling into a very comfortable deluxe stateroom .......a bottle of bubbly on ice for a welcoming drink. As a solo traveller I felt a little nervous making my way to the Britannia Restaurant for dinner. I was shown to a table with five other solo travellers and conversation was soon flowing while enjoying a delicious dinner chosen from a varied menu.
Day two was a day at sea. The sun was shining so was ideal to have a relaxing day by the pool or on one of the sun decks. There was also an opportunity to meet other solo travellers and hopefully find fellow cruisers I could befriend. This proved to be the case. We had dinner together for the remainder of the week and enjoyed joining the quiz nights, going to the Royal Court Theatre for the evening performances or dancing on deck or in the Yacht Club.......so much choice and of course sampling the cocktails!
The highlight of my cruise was the port of Santorini. Perched on the hilltop the white houses glistened in the sun as we sailed to the spot in the bay where Queen Elizabeth anchored for the day.
Such happy memories. Well done to the staff and crew of Queen Elizabeth for such a memorable cruise.
