This mountainous volcanic archipelago of ten islands and five islets - a Portuguese territory until independence in 1975 - is as unique and unspoilt as its remote location, 400 miles off the west coast of Senegal, would suggest. Once a staging post on the old sailing route to South Africa, Mindelo, on Sao Vicente, is the largest port, with attractive old Portuguese colonial buildings that betray the island's intriguing pedigree.

Loacted in Cape Verde, the volcanic archipelago of ten islands and five islets is a hidden gem. This destination was a Portuguese territory until independence in 1975, and is as unique and unspoilt as its remote location, 400 miles off the west coast of Senegal, would suggest.

Home of one of Cape Verde’s largest populations, Porto Novo is one of the most vibrant and authentic towns found within this beautiful, African-influenced archipelago. Boasting an array of pleasant bars and restaurants serving traditional local food and drink, busy markets alive with daily commerce and a beautiful scenic harbour, this is Cape Verde at its best. In addition to the engrossing culture, there’s beauty to behold here too. At the back of the town is the 2,000m-high Topo de Coroa, which is an easy climb and has magnificent 360-degree views, while dotted around the landscape lie family-owned farms that grow fruit and vegetables which are sold at markets in the town centre. There are also some old churches from the Portuguese era, as well as a couple of elegant squares with pleasant bars and cafés, from which to watch the world go by.
Arrive: Wed 15 February 2023 / Depart: Wed 15 February 2023
Poised between the Atlantic and the snow crowned Atlas Mountains, Agadir is a lively resort set beside a vast beach. The town presents the modern face of Morocco, but one where a pervasive sense of ancient and deep-rooted tradition still lingers – while inland, where the warm Sahara winds blow, the citadel-oasis or Taroudant, reflects Berber culture at its most exotic.
Arrive: Thu 16 February 2023 / Depart: Thu 16 February 2023
The most cosmopolitan of Morocco's cities, with a palpably French mood, but reflecting the paradox at the heart of Morocco - its unique fusion of ancient and modern, of Africa, Arabia and Europe. The beguiling Casablanca of Bergman and Bogart may be no more - but you'll still find endless interest and enigmas here amid busy boulevards and vibrant bazaars. From here, you can visit the Imperial City of Rabat, while magical Marrakech is within reach on a full day tour.
Arrive: Fri 17 February 2023 / Depart: Fri 17 February 2023
Overlooking a vast sweeping bay, Tangier is the traditional gateway to Morocco. Though no more than 15 miles across the Straits of Gibraltar from Europe, this is a cosmopolitan city that stands on the threshold of Africa. Its world of soaring minarets and domes, ancient casbah (once the sultan's walled palace and gardens) and animated souks express the rich part-Arab, part-African heritage of a city that has seen occupation by 12 nations since the 5th century.
