Day 1 - Copenhagen, Denmark

Arrive: Sat 13 August 2022 / Depart: Sat 13 August 2022 at 17:00

Denmark's capital is arguably one of the world's best-loved cities, and certainly the liveliest of all the Scandinavian capitals. It is a gracious and comfortable place, with a decidedly friendly, hospitable and fun-loving atmosphere. If there is such a thing as a cozy city, Copenhagen is it. From the lingering memory of the tales of Hans Christian Andersen to the colored lights of Tivoli Gardens, there is a delightful ambience that surrounds the visitor everywhere. Tidy, narrow streets are lined with tempting restaurants and cafes, and the pedestrian-only Stroget abounds with stylish shops. The spirited Copenhageners are imaginative and unconventional and exude a "do-what-you-want" philosophy that embraces and respects almost all aspects of life. Every friendly Dane you meet further illustrates the city's motto "Wonderful, wonderful, Copenhagen."

Day 2 - At Sea

Day 3 - Alesund

Arrive: Mon 15 August 2022 at 10:00 / Depart: Mon 15 August 2022 at 23:00

Stretching into the Borgundfjord and backed by the Sunnmoere Alps, Aalesund abounds with natural beauty. The town itself dates from the 9th century, when it was a Viking base for establishing settlements in France. Following a great fire in 1904, Aalesund was rebuilt in the popular Art Nouveau style of the time. Today, the towers, turrets and romantic facades make this one of the loveliest towns in all of Norway. The city is also the world's largest supplier of "klippfisk," or dried cod, but the main attraction by far is the scenic beauty of Aalesund's fjords and surrounding peaks, including 550-foot Mt. Aksla.

Day 4 - At Sea

Day 5 - Svolvaer

Arrive: Wed 17 August 2022 at 08:00 / Depart: Wed 17 August 2022 at 17:00

Huddled together in what appears to be a wall of solid rock, the Lofotens are actually several islands. Their scenery, revealed when the ice disappeared from the last Ice Age, is held to be among the most dramatic in Norway. Svolvaer, located on the island of Austvaagoey, received town status in 1996, and is the Lofotens' most important city with about 4,500 residents. Dominating the town is the mountain peak called Svolvaergeita, a beacon for climbers. Fishermen flock here when the Norwegian Arctic cod enters the Vestfjord to spawn. Artists prize the picturesque setting and extraordinary light conditions.

Day 5 - Scenic Cruising Trollfjord

Day 6 - Tromso, Norway

Arrive: Thu 18 August 2022 at 09:00 / Depart: Thu 18 August 2022 at 17:00

Many a polar expedition has begun from Tromso. The town was founded in 1794, but its roots go back to Hanseatic and, even earlier to Viking times. Situated inside the Arctic Circle on the forest-clad island of Troms, this spirited city is linked to the mainland by the spectacular Tromsobrua Bridge, built in 1960. During WWII, Tromso was one of the few places in northern Norway to escape bombing, and a number of old wood buildings still remain. At the Tromso Museum, the exhibits include an extensive display on the people of Lapland. The town also boasts both the world's northernmost university and brewery.

Day 7 - Storstappen Island, Norway

Arrive: Fri 19 August 2022 at 06:00 / Depart: Fri 19 August 2022 at 08:00

Honningsvåg is Norway’s northernmost town, and one of the smallest, with its population of 2,000 jammed into a mere one square kilometer. Devoid of permafrost, this subarctic region displays scores of colorful mountain landscapes carpeted during the summer in a lush tapestry of grasses and mountain wildflowers. In this truly unique environment, many private village gardens grow trees, despite the shortness of the Arctic summer. Honningsvåg is also the gateway to the northernmost point of continental Europe, the North Cape, or Nordkapp, often referred to as the ‘end of the world.’ Storstappen Island, rising from the sea to a height of 928’ (283 m), is a valuable nature reserve supporting colonies of some 140 great cormorants, 100 European shags, 20,000 black-legged kittiwakes, 5,000 razorbills and an impressive 100,000 puffins. To be here is a truly awe-inspiring sensory experience, viewing thousands of birds flying to and fro overhead at the same time, creating an almost deafening cacophony of sound with their cries and wingbeats.

Day 7 - Honningsvaag

Arrive: Fri 19 August 2022 at 11:00 / Depart: Fri 19 August 2022 at 21:00

The perpendicular cliffs of Nordkapp, or the North Cape, mark the very top of the European continent. This ultimate destination has long drawn adventurous royalty including Oscar II, King of Norway and Sweden, who visited in 1873, and followed by the King of Siam in 1907. The North Cape is located on the island of Mageroey, a name derived from a word that means "meager." While the landscape may have a lunar appearance, it is not really so isolated. Just 21 miles away, the main town, Honningsvåg, has some 4,000 inhabitants. In summer that number swells when the Sami people and their reindeer settle on the outskirts of town.

Day 7 - Scenic Cruising North Cape

Day 8 - At Sea

Day 9 - At Sea

Day 10 - Olden

Arrive: Mon 22 August 2022 at 08:00 / Depart: Mon 22 August 2022 at 17:00

Olden is a village and urban area in the municipality of Stryn in Vestland county, Norway. Olden is located at the mouth of the Oldeelva river at the northern end of the Oldedalen valley on the southern shore of the Nordfjorden.

Day 10 - Scenic Cruising Nordfjord

Day 11 - Laerdal, Norway

Arrive: Tue 23 August 2022 at 08:00 / Depart: Tue 23 August 2022 at 17:00

Day 11 - Scenic cruising Sognefjord

Day 12 - Rosendal

Arrive: Wed 24 August 2022 at 10:00 / Depart: Wed 24 August 2022 at 23:00

Dramatically sited at the foot of looming peaks deep in the 179-km long Hardangerfjord, neat little Rosendal is the stereotypical Norwegian fjord town. In nearby Kvinnherad, another visual treat awaits at the Rosendal Barony manor house. Gleaming white, with a dark blue tile roof, the 1665 manor sits beneath a circle of snowcapped peaks, within earshot of the Hattebergfossen waterfall, and surrounded by a splendid gardens and park including an exceptional rose garden. The interior reveals the accumulation of fine art and furnishings acquired by owners over 300 years. The prim white Kvinnherad church matches the house’s simple elegance. Still further off, the shining glaciers of the Folgefonna National Park sprawl across a range of massive peaks.

Day 13 - Kristiansund, Norway

Arrive: Thu 25 August 2022 at 08:00 / Depart: Thu 25 August 2022 at 17:00

Situated on the southern tip of Norway, Kristiansand is a place for all ages. Explore Dyreparken, a gigantic zoo, as well as numerous beaches and historical landmarks. Christiansholm Fortress, constructed in 1672, speaks to the early history of Norway with its picturesque stone martello towers and cannons pointing out to sea. Beautiful Kristiansand Cathedral, with its elegant, vaulted wooden ceiling and 230’ (70 m) steeple tower is a classic example of Neo-Gothic architecture built in 1645. While walking some of Kristiansand’s quaint and picturesque city streets, one can visit the fish market, a showplace of Norway’s seafood wealth with many open-water tanks. A highlight of a visit to Kristiansand is lovely Ravnedalen Park, constructed in 1874 as a Romantic-style, riverside garden set in a deep valley gorge, surrounded by awe-inspiring cliffs and waterfalls. Many exotic imported plants such as magnolia, cypress and rhododendron line the garden pathways, while some of Norway’s largest native spruce trees can be admired throughout the park.

Day 14 - Skagen

Arrive: Fri 26 August 2022 at 08:00 / Depart: Fri 26 August 2022 at 18:00

At the tip of the flat, sandy Jutland peninsula, Skagen is Denmark’s northernmost town and a popular holiday destination for Danes. It was long Denmark’s most important fishing port, but its popularity as a recreation area began at the end of the 19th Century when Queen Alexandrine, the wife of King Christian X, fell in love with the rustic character of the place and built the summer residence Klitgaarden. The royal couple invited other Scandinavian and European royalty to share holidays with them and Skagen’s reputation grew. At the same time, the Skagensbanen railway made travel to Jutland easier. Impressionist artists were attracted by the exotic sand- and seascapes and the vivid light reflected from the sea, and a school of Skagen Painters thrived in the first quarter of the 20th century. Arts and crafts still remain an important local tradition, and the town has many shops and galleries offering handmade goods to visitors. There is a venerable lighthouse near the peninsula’s tip, where the North Sea and the Baltic Sea meet, but due to their differing densities, their margins can clearly be seen. A St. Lawrence’s Church was built in Skagen in the 14th century, but it was eventually inundated by drifting sand dunes. The Skagen Church of today was built in 1841.

Day 15 - Copenhagen, Denmark

Arrive: Sat 27 August 2022 at 07:00 / Depart: Sat 27 August 2022
