Freedom of the Seas

Freedom of the Seas is the namesake of Royal Caribbean International’s Freedom-class. When it launched in 2006, it was the largest ship in the world. While it had to relinquish that title in 2011, significant upgrades mean that it remains a force in cruise entertainment and innovation.

Food & Drink

The main dining room is spread over three decks and each floor has its own theme and name –Leonardo, Isaac and Galileo – although all floors have the same menu. Guests can choose either early or late sittings with the more flexible My Time Dining also available, allowing diners to choose when they eat. Breakfast and lunch are open seating.

The Windjammer Café is the main alternative dining venue. This buffet restaurant allows diners to customise meals as they make their own bespoke selection from the self-service stations. There's a huge variety on offer at every meal including pizzas, burgers, pastas, salads and carved meats.

To add variety to the dining experience over the course of a cruise, there are a number of specialist restaurants. Portofino is an elegant Italian trattoria offering pasta classics and delicious seafood. For classic burgers and delicious hot dogs then Johnny Rockets offers an array of fast food treats. Chops Grille is the ship’s steakhouse and specialises in grilled meats as well as deeply decadent deserts.

For some light snacks including pastries and sandwiches, there’s plenty available in the Café Promenade, which also offers Starbucks coffee. For cooler treats, the ice cream bar serves every variety of Ben & Jerry’s throughout the day. There’s even more sweetness available in The Cupcake Cupboard which sells more than 30 varieties of cupcakes.     



The Arcadia Theater is the main entertainment venue on board and can accommodate more than 1,300 guests across its three decks. This venue hosts movies in partnership with Dreamworks throughout the day and Broadway-style revue shows in the evenings. Pharaoh’s Palace is the secondary showlounge and hosts entertaining cabaret with a variety of acts on show including magicians and comedians.

The ice rink at Studio B hosts a spectacular ice show where professional skaters perform stunning stunts and elegant dances. There’s also the opportunity for passengers to enjoy the ice with several skating session offered throughout the course of the cruise.

The Casino Royale features 19 gaming tables offering a variety of games including blackjack, roulette, poker and craps. There are also a range of slot machines located throughout.

Those who want to stay up late can visit the Crypt nightclub which features creepy décor and a spooky atmosphere as the love DJ spins the decks.


Throughout the day there are various quiz games in the ship’s lounge. In addition, guests can savour wine tasting in Vintages; request music in the nautical themed Schooner Bar; try some new cocktails in Boleros; or participate in karaoke in the On Air Bar.

The Lido Deck features two main pools, surrounded by loungers to help everyone make the most of their time in the sun. There is a large screen located above the main pool area which shows family-friendly movies and television shows. There’s an adults only pool located in the solarium and children get their own area too in the H2O zone which features slides water fountains.

There is plenty of sports equipment on board with a FlowRider surf simulator, rock climbing wall, mini-golf course, jogging track and sports court.

The ShipShape Fitness Center offers an array of fitness classes, including boxing sessions, as well as plenty of opportunities to work out solo on the exercise equipment which includes treadmills, exercise bikes, elliptical machines and weights. There are opportunities for pampering in the spa with a number of treatments available including facials, massages and acupuncture.
