Independence of the Seas

Launched in 2008, Independence of the Seas is the third ship in Royal Caribbean’s Freedom-class line. With an amazing array of activities on board this is the perfect vessel for families but there’s enough excellent service and fantastic facilities to keep every cruiser entertained. The ship sails from Southampton offering cruises to the Mediterranean, Northern Europe and the Canaries.

Food & Drink on board Independence of the Seas

The Main Dining Room cover three levels of the ship with each floor named after Shakespearian characters (Romeo and Juliet, MacBeth and King Lear). Guests can opt for traditional dining with reserved times and seating on two of these floors or may choose the more modern flexible My Time Dining allowing them to eat when they choose. 

For a less formal alternative then there are a range of options available at the self-service Windjammer Café. Adjacent to this restaurant, guests can enjoy Asian cuisine in Jade. There are more dining choices on the promenade with pizza and pasta available at Sorrento’s and a range of light snacks served in the Café Promenade.

Specialist restaurants include Johnny Rockets where passengers can enjoy American-style burgers and milkshakes in a 50s-style diner.  The newest restaurant on board is Giovanni’s Table which is a family-friendly Italian trattoria.

For premium dining, there’s prime steakhouse fare available in Chops Grille, and traditional Italian cooking accompanied by fine wine on offer in Portofino.

For a sweet feast passengers can enjoy ice cream in Sprinkles or delicious baked treats from the Cupcake Cupboard. 

 

Amazing Entertainment 

The Alhambra Theatre spans three decks and is home to the ship’s big production shows. Here guests can enjoy Las Vegas Casino-style entertainment with music, dance and lighting all combining to create a stage spectacular.


 

Grease RCI

Grease is the word!

The seventh Broadway Production onboard Royal Caribbean, Grease is set to debut onboard Independence of the Seas from July 2016.

Directed and choreographed by Olivier Award-winner Karen Bruce this is sure to be a hit with everyone from the T-Birds to the Pink Ladies!

 


Studio B provides the most incredible ice shows at sea where skilled dancers thrill audiences with some stunningly choreographed routines on the ship’s rink.

There’s plenty of entertainment to be found on the outer decks with parades held throughout the cruise on the Royal Promenade with the crew in costume performing their finest dance moves and acrobatics occasionally accompanied by the children on board. Film fans can enjoy some movies on the recently installed large poolside screen.  

There are hundreds of slot machines to enjoy in the Casino Royale along with all of the top table games including blackjack, roulette and poker along with occasional tournaments.  

There’s dancing late into the night at the Labyrinth, a two-level nightclub with designed with an unusual gothic theme.


Independence of the Seas' Activities

The H2O Zone is far more than just a swimming pool. This water park is designed especially to entertain families and features a number of small pools, water jets and interactive fountains. In the evenings this colourful space is lit up to become a Sculpture Garden.  The Central Pool is more lively and features water games throughout the day and those looking just to lie back in the water can enjoy the whirlpools.  

There’s also a pool in the Solarium where guests can experience quiet tranquillity in this adults-only section of the ship.

The ship is perfect for sporting individuals with incredible facilities on board including a full size boxing ring, skating rink, rock climbing wall and FlowRider surf simulators. There’s also a Sports Court where guests can play a number of sports including basketball, and a mini-golf course where passengers can test their putting skills

The Fitness Centre on board ship is one of the most comprehensive at sea offering a range of weight-training equipment as well as circuit training facilities. There are also a range of classes available including pilates, aerobics and yoga.

An extensive range of therapies are available in the vast ShipShape Day Spa including facials and body wraps along with a number of beauty treatments in the adjacent salon.

Those in need of retail therapy can visit the Royal Promenade and enjoy all the shops on offer including high fashion boutiques, perfume shops alongside a number of informal eateries.
