For those who prefer ships centred on dining and entertainment rather than family water attractions, Ambassador Cruise Line has a defined style. The Ambassador cruise experience combines full-board dining, afternoon tea, theatre productions, live music, organised activities and comfortable places to watch the sea. Most sailings are for adults, although selected multi-generational cruises welcome younger guests without providing dedicated children’s facilities.
Ambassador is a cruise line focused on the British market whose first ship, Ambience, began sailing from London Tilbury in April 2022. Ambition entered service in May 2023, and Renaissance has since joined the fleet following Ambassador’s merger with French operator Compagnie Francaise de Croisieres.
The 3 Ambassador cruise ships are small to mid-sized. Ambience carries around 1,400 guests, Ambition up to 1,200 and Renaissance around 1,100.
No-fly cruising remains central, with London Tilbury as the home port and regional departures around the UK. Departure points vary by season, while Renaissance also brings Caribbean fly-cruise holidays into the wider programme.
Life on board follows a familiar cruise rhythm. On sea days, guests can join a quiz or craft session, attend a talk, visit the gym, take part in a deck activity, settle into a lounge or enjoy the view outside.
These are not ships designed around waterslides, go-kart tracks or extensive youth facilities. The emphasis is on social spaces, organised activities, dining and live entertainment, with a daily programme setting out the options.
Across the fleet, accommodation broadly falls into Interior, Oceanview, Balcony and Suite categories, although grades and layouts differ by ship. Ambience and Ambition cabins include tea and coffee-making facilities, air conditioning, an en-suite bathroom, a television and a safe, while Renaissance’s facilities vary by cabin grade.
Selected single cabins are available within the fleet. Ambassador also hosts solo social gatherings on cruises of 6 nights or more.
Be sure to ask your Cruise Expert about the deck plan before booking. Some cabins have an obstructed or limited view, accessible cabin numbers vary between ships, and suite features depend on the grade chosen.
Full-board dining is included on every Ambassador cruise, covering breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. Dinner in the main restaurant normally runs across two sittings, which can be requested after booking, while breakfast and lunch are generally open seating.
Each ship combines main dining with a casual buffet. Ambience has the Buckingham Restaurant and Borough Market; Ambition has the Buckingham and Holyrood restaurants alongside its own Borough Market; Renaissance’s principal venues include the two-level Grand Restaurant Vatel and Belle Vue buffet.
Speciality restaurants carry an additional charge. Saffron features on Ambience and Ambition; Ambience also has Sea & Grass, while Ambition has the Mediterranean-style Lupino’s. Renaissance’s choices include Lotus, Kreole by Mondi, Terre & Mer and a Chef’s Table. Exact venues and menus should be checked for the chosen sailing.
Bars and lounges are an important part of the evening. Examples include Raffles Bar and The Purple Turtle Pub on Ambience, the Clifton Lounge and The Cavern on Ambition, and the Ocean Bar and Massalia Lounge on Renaissance.
Guests can pay as they go or add a drinks package, and speciality dining, WiFi, spa treatments and destination experiences are optional extras.
Evening entertainment centres on the main theatres, with productions described by Ambassador as West End-style shows. The wider programme can include live music, cabaret, guest entertainers and plays, although the line-up varies by sailing.
Daytime activities include quizzes, bingo, deck games, crafting, dance and fitness sessions. Talks and guest speakers feature on selected cruises, while libraries and card rooms provide quieter alternatives.
Core entertainment and many organised activities are included, along with use of the gym, pools and hot tubs. Tastings, behind-the-scenes tours and spa or salon treatments may cost extra.
Facilities differ between ships. Ambition has a wellness centre, gym, pool and hot tubs; Renaissance has a pool beneath a retractable roof, whirlpools, a spa and gym; Ambience offers an outdoor pool, hot tubs, fitness centre and Green Sea Spa.
Shops, onboard photography and WiFi are also available, with purchases and internet packages charged separately.
Ambassador cruise holidays range from short breaks to longer voyages. Current choices include the British Isles, Norway and the fjords, Iceland, the Baltic and Scandinavia, France, Spain, Portugal, the Canary Islands, the Mediterranean and the Caribbean.
Regional UK departures are useful for guests who prefer not to fly, with sailings from Tilbury, Belfast, Dundee and Liverpool... amongst others. Renaissance broadens the programme with Ambassador Caribbean fly-cruises, while Ambience and Ambition operate no-fly sailings from Britain.
Optional destination experiences are offered at the majority of ports and can generally be arranged before sailing or on board, subject to availability.
Ambassador describes its service style as friendly and unpretentious. The onboard routine is structured around table-service dining, staffed bars and lounges, organised activities and a published daily programme. Prices on board are quoted in £ sterling, with purchases charged to a personalised cruise card.
Dress during the day is relaxed. In the evening, the programme may suggest casual, smart or formal clothing, with Ambassador nights offering an opportunity to dress up. Formalwear is not expected throughout the cruise.
The atmosphere is adult-focused and sociable, rather than built around large-scale family attractions. Lounges, dining rooms and theatres remain central to daily life on all 3 ships.
Ambassador cruises are likely to suit:
The line is less naturally suited to families seeking children’s clubs, water parks or extensive youth entertainment. Selected multi-generational sailings welcome younger guests, and children can travel on Renaissance fly-cruises, but there are no dedicated recreational facilities for them.
The basic fare covers accommodation, full-board dining, entertainment, daily activities, port taxes and use of core leisure facilities. Guests can then decide whether to add drinks, speciality restaurants, WiFi, spa treatments or organised trips ashore.
There is also the convenience of sailing from UK ports, combined with an adult-focused programme and small-to-mid-sized ships.
An Ambassador cruise is a considered option for travellers who want familiar cruise routines, a largely adult setting and a broad choice of itineraries. The experience is shaped by full-board dining, theatre entertainment, sociable lounges, daytime activities and time to enjoy the journey.

Trusted Customer / August 2026
I found the whole process of getting a quote and booking our cruise and stay trip through CruiseKings straightforward and insightive. I had many questions and everything was explained clearly to me before I confirmed my booking. I had interaction with two agents and both shared their own experiences which gave me more confidence in proceeding with the booking. They were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. They even managed to reduce the cost quite significantly which was great news.
