Could a cruise win over a family who usually choose five-star all inclusive holidays? For one of our clients, their first experience on board Royal Caribbean’s Legend of the Seas did exactly that.
Travelling with their five-year-old daughter, the Mostoufi family stepped aboard with high expectations but little idea of what cruising would really be like. They returned home with unforgettable memories, a new favourite way to holiday and plenty of enthusiasm for planning their next adventure. Here is what made their first cruise so special.
The sheer size of Legend of the Seas made an immediate impression. But beyond the facilities, entertainment, and choice of places to eat, it was the service that really stood out.
Throughout the ship, the Mostoufi’s felt genuinely looked after, with the Royal Caribbean staff often anticipating what they needed before they had even thought to ask. The main dining room team were a particular highlight, combining friendly conversation with professional, attentive service.
For a family wondering how a cruise would compare with their usual resort holidays, those personal touches made all the difference.
Before sailing, the Mostoufi’s had wondered whether their accommodation might feel a little compact, compared with a hotel room. However, they found there was more than enough space for all three of them.
Comfortable beds, including their daughter’s sofa bed, meant everyone slept well. While the bathroom was smaller than they might have been used to on land, it was practical and worked perfectly well for their family. Their cabin attendant also helped make the stay special, keeping everything beautifully clean and tidy.
The favourite feature, though, was the large Balcony. Having somewhere private to unwind after a busy day exploring the ship was a real bonus. A Balcony cabin is already on their wish list for their next cruise!
Eating together in the main dining room quickly became one of their favourite parts of the day. With beautifully presented food, a lovely atmosphere and attentive service, dinner felt like a proper evening out together – with the meal included in their cruise fare.
Elsewhere on board, the variety encouraged them to keep trying somewhere new. From quick, casual meals to more leisurely dining, they found options to suit everyone, with consistently delicious food wherever they chose to eat.
For an extra treat, they also visited the Teppanyaki restaurant, which carried an additional charge. Both the food and the experience made it another memorable evening.
For this Mostoufi family, the appeal was being able to make dining as relaxed or as special as they fancied.
Ask the Mostoufi’s for their biggest highlight and the entertainment takes centre stage.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the Aqua Show, the ice-skating show, and America’s Got Talent all left a lasting impression. Each felt like a major production in its own right, with a standard that went well beyond what they had expected from a holiday at sea.
Even the Mostoufi’s hardest-to-impress audience member was won over.
Their five-year-old daughter was equally captivated, while the children’s activities and shows in the kids’ club impressed them with the thought and care that had gone into them.
The fun continued during the day, with waterslides, mini golf, the FlowRider and Crown’s Edge among their activity highlights. Despite making the most of their time on board, they still felt they had only scratched the surface... A good problem to have when the goal is keeping the family entertained!
The Mostoufi’s loved the variety between each neighbourhood on board.
Surfside was where they spent most of their time together, making the most of its family-focused atmosphere. But being able to move between areas with their own identities meant each day could feel different from the last.
They could spend time enjoying activities as a family, head somewhere else for a meal or entertainment, then find a spot to relax. For them, the ship never felt like one vast space where everything was the same.
With so much to see and do, choosing a favourite memory might sound difficult. For the Mostoufi family, though, it came down to something simple: enjoying it together. Those shared moments are what they expect to remember most fondly – and a big part of why they are so excited to cruise again.
Check the app at the start of each day… The Mostoufi’s recommend taking a little time each morning to see what is happening and when. With so many activities to choose from, it helped them make the most of their time on board.
Make time for the main dining room… Their evenings here were a real holiday highlight, and something they would encourage other guests to experience.
Consider a Balcony cabin… Having enjoyed the extra outdoor space and the chance to watch the ocean go by, they would happily recommend one to anyone planning their first cruise.
Perhaps the clearest sign of how much the Mostoufi’s enjoyed Legend of the Seas was how reluctant they sometimes felt to leave it. They had set off wondering whether cruising could live up to the five-star all inclusive holidays they normally chose. They came home recommending it to anyone who would listen. Legend of the Seas was not simply a successful first cruise. It was the start of a whole new way to holiday together as a family.
