Sunny Kagoshima lives in the shadow of Sakurajima, an active volcano that last erupted in 2016. Kagoshima balances an air of mystery with a seaside approachability thanks to its location in Southern Japan along the coast and proximity to Sakurajima. In addition to being the capital of the Kagoshima Prefecture in Japan, the city is home to ancient castles and traditional Japanese Gardens that delight locals and visitors alike. Vacationers on an Asia cruise to Kagoshima, Japan can relax at Ibusuki Onsen, the local hot springs, while adventurous travelers will be awed by the volcano’s peaks after a hike to one of the many observation points. This once-sleepy harbor town has blossomed into an international trade hub, now globally renowned for its rich culture, Confucian traditions, and incredible Michelin-star rated restaurants. Before embarking on an Asia cruise from Hong Kong, don’t miss a chance to explore the city and the surrounding areas. Head to the top of the Peak Tower for a panoramic view of all of Hong Kong, then shop the Temple Street Night Market. Take an afternoon to tour the village of Lai Chi Wo, where you’ll be surrounded by banyan trees and ancient temples. End the day with comforting dim sum or a nightcap at a bustling Hong Kong speakeasy.

The Nguyen Dynasty founded this former capital in the 17th century on the banks of the Perfume River. Today it sits as a massive open-air museum of temples, pagodas, palaces and tombs. Pago Pago is the main settlement on Tutuila, surrounded by peaks rising out of deepwater harbor rimmed with palm-shaded beaches.
