Lively yet full of history, this World Heritage Site is full of fasination but very easy to get around Woalking around Dubrovnik is like stepping back into the past. Its ancient city walls surround countless buildings that have been perfectly perserved and are easy to find, thanks to the grid-like street system. Look out in particular for the Onofrio Fountain and the nearby Franciscan Monastery with the third oldest pharmacy in Europe. And don't miss the old medieval Sponza Palance, St Blaises Church and the Cathedral.

Day 2 - At Sea

Day 3 - Malta

As the ship cruises into Valletta, a breathtaking landscape of soaring steeples and church domes will rise up to greet you. Surrounded by tiny villages and a countryside brimming with flowers, Valletta is Malta's quintessential capital. Wander the steep, narrow streets laden with sublime churches, or enjoy a freshly-ground coffee at one of the many pavement cafes, whilst admiring the colourful fishing boats as they sway gently in the alluring harbour. Nearby Mdina, the old capital of Malta, is an impressive walled city finely decorated with Medieval and Baroque architecture. Known as ‘the silent city' because cars are forbidden, horse-drawn carriages trotting through the streets and the gentle chatter of Mdina's inhabitants will be the only sounds to punctuate the peaceful atmosphere.

Taranto is surrounded by a natural harbour so this city and seafood go hand in hand – it’s particularly well-known for oysters and mussels. The historical old town spreads over an island, while the new town is all about sleek and stylish palm-lined avenues. Taranto has an interesting history – it dates back to the year 706 BC when it was founded as a Greek-Spartan colony. The Museo Nazionale Archeologico holds hundreds of artefacts from their reign, including terracotta figures, glassware and jewellery.

A tiny republic in southeast Europe, the scenery here will have your jaw dropping to the floor the moment you arrive. Cue glittering lakes. Green mountains as far as the eye can see. And cashmere-soft sands that melt into sapphire seas. Even spy extraordinaire 007 couldn’t keep away – these magical landscapes starred in the James Bond hit ‘Casino Royale’.......

Zadar doesn’t put age before beauty, it offers them both at the same time. This Dalmatian city on the Adriatic Coast is one of the oldest in Europe, and its timeline can be traced back more than 3,000 years. Having said that, it’s more than a little easy on the eye. The traffic-free streets are paved in pearly marble, its town houses are topped with red roofs, and the city is dotted with ancient Roman ruins and historical churches.

Day 11 - Venice (Trieste)

Arrive: Sun 26 May 2024 at 08:00 / Depart: Sun 26 May 2024 at 17:00

Idyllic and relaxing, the cafes, souvenir shops and sights of Trieste show why it once rivalled Venice as one of the key Adriatic trading ports. Docking in the heart of the city, Trieste is busy, bustling and thriving while also being a very attractive destination with typical Italian architecture. Relax in one of the many cafes and then stroll around the town's main square – and Italy's largest – the beautiful Piazza Unita d'Italia.

The waterfront’s backed by crumbling defensive fortifications, and if you scan the horizon, you’ll see an ancient domed cathedral perched on the hill. In the terracotta-topped town, Gothic architecture jostles for space with Roman and Greek buildings, while pavement cafés and museums are shoulder-to-shoulder with more modern additions.

Day 13 - Split

Arrive: Tue 28 May 2024 at 08:00 / Depart: Tue 28 May 2024 at 17:00

The Adriatic Sea and a blue-hued mountain range sandwich southerly Bar. The town itself is dominated by a working waterfront. Just up the road lies picturesque Stari Bar. Once the original Bari, it’s still filled with the time-worn leftovers of everyone from the Byzantines to the Turks. Head over the mountains and you’ll find the mammoth Lake Skadar.
