Cruise & Maritime Voyages have announced a new addition to their fleet with the purchase of the Grand Holiday from Costa Crociere. The ship will be renamed Magellan and launch in the spring of 2015 to become the flagship of the CMV fleet.
Magellan joins the fleet comprising of the MS Marco Polo and MS Astor with MS Azores also new to CMV, embarking on its first cruise in January 2015. The line operates smaller vessels, providing a more intimate cruise experience than that offered by some of the larger operators. Magellan will become the largest ship in the fleet carrying 1,250 passengers.
It is hoped that this vessel will appeal to the British cruise market as Christian Verhounig, CEO and Chairman of CMV explains, “The introduction of Magellan to our growing ocean fleet is another important milestone in the expansion and strategic development of the Group’s presence in the UK and wider international markets which will increase overall capacity to 115,000 passengers.”
Commercial Director Chris Coates added, “We are delighted to have secured this excellent addition to our fleet which we believe will be very well suited to our core British market. The introduction of Magellan will increase UK capacity by 40% increasing carryings up to 74,000 passengers.”
The ship’s debut cruise will depart from London, Tilbury on the 15th March 2015 before embarking on a 12-night voyage visiting Iceland and the Faroe Islands to see the natural wonders of the Northern Lights and the Solar Eclipse. There will also be itineraries available departing from Newcastle allowing passengers throughout the UK access to the new Cruise & Maritime experience.
