Fred Olsen Murder Mystery

If you have a love of mystery and also enjoy solving mysteries then a murder mystery holiday from Fred Olsen could be the perfect cruise for you.  Rather than just being an evening’s entertainment, the whodunnit is played out across the duration of the cruise as Boudicca visits ports in Portugal, the Canary Islands and the UK. The mystery incorporates the ports of call as well as locations throughout the ship helping passengers to become fully immersed in the mystery.

Boudicca is one of the more intimate cruise ships at sea but contains fabulous facilities with Gaming Tables, a range of lovely lounges including the Observatory and Lido Lounge, splendid entertainment in the Neptune Lounge and a delightful range of dining options available from the formal Four Seasons Restaurant to the alfresco Grill. This ship carries just 880 people and every one of them could be a suspect.

Guests can choose how much they want to participate in proceedings meaning they can either get into character as part of the mystery or alternatively sit back just observe the mystery unfold before their eyes. Events takes place in the 1920's and guests will be introduced to their characters on the opening night before enjoying a fancy dress party worthy of the Great Gatsby himself the following evening.

Every day is themed with specific poisons featured including arsenic, mandrake and opiates providing guests with extra insights in order to unravel the murder mystery plot.

While solving the mystery creates a great deal of intrigue and entertainment, there’s plenty more on offer to provide amusement, all appropriately themed of course. Learn about some real poisoners with theatrical performances of Cleopatra’s suicide, the Borgias, the Umbrella assassin and Rasputin’s death. The movies are even appropriately toxin-themed with classics like Arsenic and Old Lace and Romeo and Juliet to entertain.

There will also be an incredible line-up of guest speakers with a venom specialist, forensic examiner and archaeologist all on hand to elucidate on the theme of murder. Those looking for some hands on experience can even learn more about deadly substances at a poison-making demonstration.

Shore excursions are similarly dark with one of the highlights being a trip to Alnwick Castle and its famous Poison Garden where visitors can see poisonous plants up close and maybe even gain some insights to help solve the mystery.

The Poison, Murder & Mystery Cruise sets sail from Rosyth on 10th July 2015 and lasts 16 nights.
