You’ve heard the expression “sing for your dinner”, in this case the food is incredible and you would need to be a singer good enough to be on, say, The Voice? Don’t worry, you won’t have to actually sing for you dinner, especially with some of the packages that we provide, but it does tie in nicely with this week’s Cruise News!
The Voice of the Ocean is coming to Princess Cruises
If you have been sentient for the last few years, then you will no doubt have heard of The Voice, another talent show that revolves around singing however this one has a twist. The judges do not face the contestants so that they don’t judge them by appearance, only by the power, prowess and tone of their voices.
It is now coming to the Ocean and Princess Cruises, and YOU can enter. It is only on selected cruise ships, so it will be on the Regal Princess throughout October and then be carried out on the Royal Princess and Caribbean Princess towards the end of the year.
At the start of each cruise there will be karaoke tryouts for anyone over the age of 16, and guests and cruise staff will decide who continues to the competitive rounds.
As the competition progresses, and you make it into the competitive rounds, you are assigned a mentor (a Princess musical entertainer or vocalist) who will meet with you throughout the cruise to rehearse with the ship’s band as well as back-up singers.
On the last night of the cruise, the finale will be held - The Voice of the Ocean Live Show - and will feature up to nine contestants who will perform their songs in the Princess Theatre. In keeping with the tv show, the three judges will be in their chairs facing the opposite way during the performances and will pick three finalists who will then have the audience pick a winner.
If you win then you will be awarded a trophy, as well as the title “The Voice Of The Ocean”.
Fred. Olsen crowned Britain’s Best Cruise Line For Food
Some great news for Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines who were recently presented with the award for “Britain’s Best Cruise Line for Food” by the Holiday and Cruise Channel in their ‘Telly Awards’. They didn't scrape by either, they won with a reasonable lead by accruing nearly 10,000 votes.
Fred. Olsen have always been a great option for gastronomical excellence in cruising, and when our Product Executive, Angela Lafferty, reviewed the Boudicca she had nothing but great things to say about the dining experience. So it is no surprise that the poll that the Holiday & Cruise Channel run every quarter displayed Fred. Olsen out in front.
Fred. Olsen’s Corporate Executive Chef, Dirk Helsig, said:
“All the Executive Chefs and their teams are over the moon to have won this award, and we are very proud to work for Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines.
“Whether they are washing pots or removing garbage, it is a team effort from all the individual Galley staff, but we should also not forget the Restaurant team’s important contribution to this success.
“We will continue to work with the very best British ingredients to create feasts for all of our guests to enjoy as they take an exciting Fred. Olsen cruise!”
