This week in cruising, there are trips to another galaxy with a themed voyage, sumptuous new dining venues announced, a soon to be floated out ship, and the announcement of a new arrival on Europe's waterways.
Disney to introduce Star Wars cruises
The force is strong in this one, as Disney Cruise Line takes passengers on the ultimate Star Wars holiday, with a new themed cruise. The Western Caribbean will provide sun as hot as Tatooine as Disney Fantasy departs from Port Canaveral on a range of dates. Guests can bring their own costumes so they feel at home in a galaxy far, far away, and they can interact with a range of characters from Darth Vadar to Chewbacca. There will be plenty to entertain the younglings with Jedi Training, while adults can savour the many cocktails available in the Cantina.
Royal Caribbean announce float out date for new ship
Royal Caribbean has announced that their newest Quantum-class ship - Anthem of the Seas - will be floated out on 21 February 2015, subject to weather conditions. It is the second ship in the class following the launch of Quantum of the Seas in November 2014. The 4,905 passenger ship will embark on it's maiden voyage on 22 April 2015 with an 8 night cruise departing from Southampton.
New dining venues announced on Holland America
The launch of a new cruise ship often means the announcement of exciting new dining venues and Holland America Line do not disappoint with the launch of Koningsdam in summer 2016. Passengers will be able to savour French seafood delights in the brasserie inspired Sel de Mer. There will be innovative cuisine with Dinner at the Culinary Arts Centre. Throughout the day, this venue will be home to cookery demonstrations and classes but at night, diners will be able to enjoy food delivered from the show kitchens to their plates. There's a new twist on the Lido restaurant with the Lido Market, where passengers can choose food from five themed stations. Finally, there's a culinary nod to the cruise line's heritage with Dutch snacks and drinks available at the Grand Dutch Cafe.
Emerald Waterways launch new ship
Emerald Waterways has made quite a splash since they launched their modern brand of boutique river cruising in 2014. Starting with just two ships, the company later announced that the fleet would double in size in time for the 2015 season. Now they have announced that fifth ship, Emerald Belle will launch in early 2016. Belle will follow the same design as the rest of the fleet as a 135 metre river boat carrying 182 passengers.
