This week's cruise news has a recurring theme, the rule of 5’s, with Royal Caribbean and Crystal Cruises both announcing ships that follow this rule.

Royal Caribbean Order 5th Quantum Class Ship

A year ago, the Quantum Class was officially launched with the Quantum of the Seas taking its maiden voyage in November 2014, and the Anthem of the Seas was launched this year in April.

Earlier this week, Royal Caribbean announced that it had ordered a fifth ship to be launched in 2020. It class was only, initially, meant to contain three ships, but after the success of the first two they announced a fourth in May 2015, and now a fifth!

The president of the cruise line, Michael Bayley, said: “At Royal Caribbean we are focused on continuously improving efficiency and sustainability, and the fifth Quantum-class vessel will be clear evidence of this.

Crystal Announce 5 New River Ships

In keeping with the rule of five, Crystal Cruises have announced 5 new river ships that are all to be named after famous composers. The Crystal Mozart will sail on the Danube, and the other announcements; the Crystal Bach, Crystal Mahler, Crystal Ravel and Crystal Debussy will cruise the Garonne, Dordogne and Seine rivers.

They already boast the largest river cruise ship in Europe, the Crystal Mozart, but it will be refurbished and solidify its place there. It will be joined by the rest of the ships in the fleet between June and August of 2017.
