Cruising whilst pregnant is possible up until a specific number of weeks, however this will be dependent upon the Cruise line and Airline you are travelling with so you should always check the individual terms and conditions.
Pregnant women must seek medical advice from a doctor before travelling on a cruise, just as you would with any other form of travel. If you are fly cruising you must also check with the airline as each supplier will have varying terms and conditions of carriage.
Most Cruise lines such as P&O Cruises, Celebrity Cruises, Royal Caribbean or Azamara will not let you travel if you are past your 24th week of pregnancy. Others such as Hurtigruten and Fred Olsen will let you travel up to 28 weeks so it is vital that you double check.
Most cruise lines do require a doctor or midwife’s letter stating that mother and baby are in good health, fit to travel and that the pregnancy is not high risk. The letter must also include the estimated date of delivery. These documents are normally required at least 2 months before you travel; again you must double check with the terms and conditions of who you are travelling with.
You must also ensure that you have sufficient travel insurance to cover you in case of an emergency and also disclose your pregnancy to your insurer. If you do not inform the Cruise Line that you are pregnant then there is a risk that you may be turned away from the port and unable to embark your cruise.
