Can I send text messages and make calls from my mobile on a cruise?
You can stay in touch using your mobile phone at sea just as you would on land, however this may incur extra charges so always check with your service provider before travelling.
You can use your mobile phone to call or text from your cruise, however, once you set sail your phone will fall into "roaming mode" which almost always reflects a higher tariff and fee.
The charges for these services are down to the Individual Service Provider and therefore not within the control of any of the Cruise Lines. Your Service Provider should be able to give you a breakdown of all charges for making and receiving calls and texts whilst abroad.
You should also be aware that charges for Pay as You Go mobile phones can vary and be significantly higher to those of Contracted phones on the same network.
Prior to travelling you should contact your mobile phone or network provider and ask them to set you to the best plan for travelling in international waters. You may also need to check to ensure that International Roaming is enabled in order for your phone to work.
