What gym and fitness facilities are on board a cruise ship?
All of the major Cruise Lines offer fitness facilities on board ranging from gymnasiums and running tracks to the more adventurous rock climbing walls and surfing simulators! Find out more below...
All cruise ships offer fitness facilities on board, however as you would expect the smaller the ship - the smaller the gym. Some of the larger or more Luxury Cruise lines may have first-rate state of the art facilities, but a smaller ship obviously won’t have the same sized workout space of a 3,000+ passenger ship.
Most of the larger ships will have full sized gymnasiums onboard and also offer a wide ranging program of fitness classes and activities from Pilates to Zumba! Many of these group classes do come with fees attached (typically $10-$15) and classes can fill up, so sign up in advance if you are keen to join in.
Opening times for the gymnasiums are generally from early in the morning until till late at night looking after both early risers and night owls who want to burn off the extra calories before bed!
The Gym can get busy at peak times (early morning and late afternoon pre-dinner) so you may want to avoid going at these times or perhaps take advantage of times when the ship is in port.
Most gyms will offer cardio machines and free weights and some even offer a touch screen virtual trainer, but be aware that they may manage peak times by using signup sheets for the machines with strict time limits so check out this policy with your Cruise Expert prior to your cruise.
Whatever your fitness level you will find the right equipment to suit you, but remember to work out at your own level, and don't do anything that appears painful to you.
